About the event
Please read the information below carefully prior to registration, even if you have participated in the program in the past.
Registration will open on September 1st with a one week pre-registration period FOR THOSE BRAND NEW TO THE PROGRAM ONLY, starting August 25th. This year, any dancers who have participated for two consecutive years are asked to join in the new option of "Group Mentoring", described below.
Are you ready to take your dancing to the next level but aren't sure how? Are you feeling stuck, uninspired, or just uncertain of what your next step should be? Want to do a nice solo performance but don't know where to begin? Just want to try something different to refresh and revitalize your skills and technique? Rahil's year-long training program may just be right for you!
Yearlong Private Program Info:
With two private meetings each month (on Zoom until closer to your "presentation" date), you'll get focused feedback and drills for technique, instruction on props and styles, and a customized choreography to hone your skills. You'll get recordings and written notes to help you narrow your practice to where you need it most. This program is aimed at helping belly dance soloists make measurable progress in technique, range, and performance skills. With regular "accountability checks," specific goals, and a challenging choreography to present at a local show, much of the uncertainty is removed from the creative process. The choreography will be a combination of your "wants" and personal choices along with Rahil's focus on your "needs" to challenge you. Once your choreography is polished, present it at the KC Raqs Friday hafla or Haflaween!
At $50/month, the cost of this program is about half of what it would cost for you to take the equivalent of private lessons. You pay $100 to secure your space in the program, which pays for your first and last month's training tuition (November 2024 and either July 2025 or October 2025 depending on your program itinerary). You simply pay $50 each month when you schedule your lessons for that month. A sample schedule is below.
November: Initial Assessment and Drills
December: Focus on Skills, Styles, and Props
January: Goal-Setting and Project Planning
February: Song Mapping, Assignments, and Skill Drills
March: Choreography Creation and Costume Consultation
April: Choreography Creation and Targeted Drills
May: Choreography Creation and Refining the Look
June: Performance Feedback and Polishing
July: Performance Perfection (KC Raqs Performers); Targeted Drills and Assignments
August: Final Reflections (KC Raqs Performers); Performance Feedback and Polishing
September: Targeted Drills and Assignments (Haflaween Performers)
October: Performance Perfection and Final Reflections (Haflaween Performers)
Yearlong Group Mentoring Info:
If you are a dancer who has participated for two consecutive years in the private program, you are asked to participate in the group mentoring for the 2025 Performance Year. This is also open to any experienced or aspiring soloist looking for guidance on the choreography creation process. We will meet once a month (typically virtually with occasional in-studio options) to assess technical needs, set goals, plan choreography projects, and set up guideposts to help you through the creative process (please note, you'll need to attend these meetings live in order to keep on track). In this program, YOU get to write your own choreography, while Rahil helps you through the steps and gives you feedback. Each month, you will get assignments to prepare you for the next step of the process. You also get a 10% discount on all "special topics" classes and workshops in 2025 through the duration of your program, many of which the topics will be selected with your needs, interests, and projects in mind. You'll pay $25/month with the initial deposit of $50 securing your space in the program and covering the first and final month's activities. A sample schedule is below, aimed at preparing participants for a Haflaween presentation:
November: Technique Assessments
December: Goal Setting
January: Project Planning
February: Song Mapping
March: Choreography Creation Pt. 1
April: Targeted Skills and Research
May: Choreo Creation Pt. 2
June: Targeted Skills and Feedback

SPACE IS VERY LIMITED. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that participants are enrolling in weekly classes with Rahil in order to get the most from these programs. Please note that ALL PARTICIPANTS are asked to send practice videos and complete assignments regularly in order to remain in the program. If you have questions, please contact Rahil directly.
