Details and Phrasing for Aspiring Choreographers

Whether you are newer to writing choreographies, a seasoned soloist, or a die-hard improv dancer, the more you understand and familiarize with your music, the better your performances will be. Knowing your song inside and out, from the rhythms and instrumentation to the phrasing, repeats, and accents will allow you to create a logical choreography that you can relax into and really enjoy performing.

In this class, we will look pieces from three different songs that fit different "styles" of music commonly used for belly dance. As a bonus, you have the option of outlining your own song with phrasing and repeats after the class and submitting it for feedback so you get independent practice. ***This is highly recommended for dancers who want to participate in Rahil's Choreography Creation Mentoring in 2027, as you'll need to have a phrase of your song prior to our first meeting.***
