Folk Dances of Egypt (Level 3+)

Folk Dances of Egypt (331): Mondays from 7:30 to 8:30 PM, 6 weeks (July 11, 18, 25, Aug 1, 8, 15). $63/session, $12/single

Belly dance has a rich history and deep roots! Here we will dive deep into some of the regional dance styles of Egypt. Not only will you learn essential technique and aesthetics for each regional dance, you'll gain a better understanding of the terms folk, folkloric, and social dance. We will also examine the impact of the National Dance Troupes of Egypt on the representation of regional dances and our perception as Westerners. Each week will focus on a different region and style. This class is required for any Level 3 participant who plans to learn the Haflaween choreography on Mondays in September and October.
