Raqs Baladi (354): Sundays from 5 to 6 PM, 6 weeks (November 5, 12, 19, 26, Dec 3, 10). $75 session, $15/single (plus paypal fee if paying online)
Understanding raqs baladi is essential to understanding the roots of Egyptian raqs sharqi: the technique, the music, the character. The term baladi has so many nuances that sometimes we can get lost in trying to find one definition. We will learn the "typical" meaning for belly dancers, then dive deep into the cultural meaning, musical style, and dance styles. This class is sure to deepen your understanding, not just of what "baladi" means, but of belly dance in general!
Prereq: 301 (Advanced Technique) and 311 (Dynamic Combinations) are required.
