About the event
Announcing an afternoon and evening of fun for the amazing dancers of Kansas City: Summer Shimmies!
I'm excited to have Elianae as a special guest instructor for an afternoon workshop that can benefit all levels and styles: Ballet for Belly Dancers. Cost for the workshop is $30.
"We will be covering dance strength training for the body, focusing on legs and arms. We will be performing modified ballet technique geared towards the bellydancer. After a ballet themed warm-up, we will move on to plies and squats, then have a short modified barre utilizing the barre (or chairs)! We will talk posture and alignment, as we move our arms and feet in harmonious positions. After barre, learn awesome across the floor travelling steps, such as bellydancer arabesques and compass turns, chasse and balance’, chaine’ and more! These dynamic movements can add polish and drama to any dance style. Class will cumulate with a fun, beautiful combination incorporating our movements in an elegant bellydancer reverence that you can utilize for entrances or beautiful veil work! Also, although bare feet should be ok, you may want to bring ballet slippers, socks (grippy yoga ones are good), dance paws ,or dance shoes to the workshop to aid in turns."
Then, after the workshop, we will have an informal show that is a unique opportunity for our region's students. Here's the idea:
Our students are the ultimate support network that keeps us dance teachers going. Your dedication and patronage is what allows us to continue performing, traveling, and learning. Performance experience is VITAL to the growth of student dancers, whether you’ve been dancing one year or ten! Nothing is more inspiring and exhilarating than an opportunity to use all the knowledge you’ve gained from classes and to wear those costumes! So for this hafla, something different: teachers and professionals, you are welcome to perform...but only IF you have students performing. Troupes, trios, duets, and solos are all welcome! Solo spots are available to any students, and only to teachers as space allows. Yes, we are all perpetual students, but no, that doesn’t count. (Those of you more-experienced dancers/teachers/professionals, come perform at KC Raqs in August!)
First dibs on dance spots are given to those who participate in the afternoon workshop taught by our special guest Elianae. Teachers: you won’t be able to secure your dance spot until your students sign up! As of June 1st, I will open up any remaining dance spots to the community at large (same rules apply). Spaces will be limited to keep the show length manageable (and my costs low).
In an effort to cover my costs, the following prices will apply (Yes, it sucks to have to pay to perform, but venue rentals are expensive! This is how we have nice things!):
$5 for any performer who participated in the workshop
$10 for any performer who did not participate in the workshop
$10 for general admission
To reserve your dance spot, sign up on the website (be sure to add the performer ticket to your cart when you register for the workshop). I will then contact you for performance details! Website will be up and ready for registrations soon! My students: sign up in person to save the PayPal fee!
